Floral design started as a fun hobby, I never planned for it to become my career. I didn’t realize I had a knack for floral design until a friend asked me to provide decorations for an event he was hosting. His daughter adored my work and asked me to provide the flowers for her wedding. I was thrilled to be included in such a special day. At Flowers by Mercedes, I provide customized floral arrangements for home décor, office décor, and special events. While growing up in the Caribbean, we were told to be fearful of the Rasta man who smokes ganja (marijuana / Cannabis) so, I had a sinister view of the plant. When recreational marijuana took center stage, I watched from afar until my mom had a bad fall that landed her in the emergency room. I had high hopes that once she was discharged, things would be better but, her pain worsened. To add insult to injury, the pain medication prescribed by the doctor after she was discharged from the hospital did nothing to ease her pain. There she was at home stuck in pain and feeling helpless!

Have you ever witnessed your mom crying in excoriating pain? Well, it was a difficult and defining moment for me. The next morning, I called her doctor, they gave her the same prescription only a different brand and still no relief.

I was upset and ready to do anything to get her some relief. I pondered on alternative remedies and suddenly recalled some talk I had heard about people having great success with Cannabis. I jumped up from my seat, got in my car and headed straight to a well-known dispensary for the first time. I figured that the worst would be no different than where my mom was currently so, I put my trust in one of the many compounds of the Cannabis plant - CBD - and it WORKED!
